We again welcome a delegation from the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine at our headquarters – this time, the focus is placed on a joint audit project.

From 24 to 26 January, we welcome a delegation of the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine at our headquarters in Bonn. The discussions do not only serve to strengthen our bilateral relations: This time, we focus on a joint project. This project is about a support programme intended to improve the housing situation of internally-displaced persons in Ukraine. The programme is funded from German resources and both the Ukrainian and the German SAI closely monitor the programme.

We intend to strengthen the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine by providing our expertise.

The project is based on a cooperation agreement concluded in July 2023. The agreement stipulates that we support the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine in implementing international standards on auditing and in developing capacity. We closely cooperate in joint audit projects to enable knowledge sharing and transfer. We do so to contribute to strengthening external auditing in Ukraine.

“Strong, independent and effective external auditing is key for a vibrant democracy”, Kay Scheller, our President, emphasised at the meeting. “The expert exchange on the mandate, organisational set-up, responsibilities and the independence of SAIs as well as on audit approaches and lessons learned from earlier audit work aims to strengthen the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine.”

Knowledge transfer at all levels

Another benefit: We integrate the Ukrainian visit into the “Europe” working group. For 20 years, the working group has been the platform for German audit institutions to share information and knowledge on European and international issues of external auditing. Within this framework, colleagues from different government levels get together, share information and knowledge and learn from each other. In addition to the support programme on improving the housing situation, we also discuss an audit project which the Court of Auditors of Hesse is currently carrying out with the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine. The project is about disaster risk reduction, civil protection and resilience. And finally, we also share information and knowledge on audits in the area of energy and the European Recovery Fund.
