The Women Leadership Academy aims to support African Supreme Audit Institutions’ women leaders in strengthening their technical expertise and in fulfilling their leadership and administrative tasks.

The visit to the Bundesrechnungshof was organised as a workshop consisting of three main sessions. Each session was moderated by a woman leader of the Bundesrechnungshof. Initially the participants were given an introduction to the organization and tasks of the external audit function in Germany. Following this, gender specific topics such as balancing work and family life were discussed. The final session focused on the Bundesrechnungshof’s international engagements as new member of the United Nations Board of Auditors and its role in INTOSAI (International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions) and EUROSAI (European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions).

The discussion between the presenters and the participants was lively and open. The participants asked lots of question about the Bundesrechnungshof’s functions and ways of working. They also showed particular interest in how the Bundesrechnungshof cooperates with parliament and how it conducts its media and publicity work.

Current topics such as the use of big data and the inclusion of the Sustainable Development Goals in the work of audit offices were also subject to discussion. Gender-specific questions concerning the promotion of women to leadership positions were raised as well.
