Kicking off professional cooperation in EUROSAI

Kick-off Group

Fostering professional cooperation among Supreme Audit Institutions in Europe and beyond is one of two goals of EUROSAI, the regional branch of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions. The Bundesrechnungshof and the Supreme Audit Office of the Czech Republic are jointly responsible for brokering such cooperation, ranging from cooperative audits to exchange of knowledge and ideas. To that end they held a joint meeting on November 29-30, 2017 in Potsdam, Germany.

As co-leaders of EUROSAI’s Strategic Goal 1, the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Germany and the Czech Republic are responsible for promoting and brokering professional cooperation among SAIs in the EUROSAI region in 2017-2020. True to their role as brokers, they held a kick-off meeting on Nov. 29-30, 2017 in Potsdam with interested SAIs as well as representatives of the EUROSAI Working Groups and Task Forces.

In Potsdam participating SAIs expressed interest in cooperating on a range of topics, from analyzing big data to the more procedural aspects of how SAIs follow-up on audit findings. At the meeting it became clear that the appropriate form of cooperation depends on the topic at hand: Not every issue should be analyzed in a full-blown cooperative audit and an initial workshop or exchange of data may sometimes be the more effective alternative.

In a next step, the SAIs of Germany and the Czech Republic will collect project ideas in the so-called “Operational Plan” for adoption by the EUROSAI Governing Board in March 2018. We call on all interested EUROSAI members to submit ideas for projects that you would consider leading on or participating in.
