UN Board of Auditors – Official handover of Board membership to President Kay Scheller

The 70th Regular Session of the United Nations Board of Auditors was held in New York on 26 July 2016. Kay Scheller, President of the German SAI, attended the session as a Board member for the first time. He was appointed member of the United Nations Board of Auditors by the UN National Assembly on 13 November 2015. His six-year term will begin on 1 July 2016. The UN Board of Auditors mandate is to audit the accounts of more than 20 UN organizations and peacekeeping missions. In addition, the Board reports on economic issues emerging in the UN context.

At the session, the Board adopted eleven audit reports. More information on these reports is given in the relevant press release. Furthermore, the session saw the official handover of Board membership from Sir Amyas Morse (Comptroller and Auditor General, United Kingdom) to President Scheller. “The philosophy of our work aims at improving public administration and enhancing public management at national and international level. This includes a transparent, enhanced and sustainable management of the United Nations budgets”, Mr. Scheller explained. “Therefore, I am convinced that we will be able to contribute to a responsible use of funds in the United Nations system.”

At the Board’s session, the members had the opportunity to attend a lunch together with Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations. In his welcoming address, Mr. Ban Ki‑moon highlighted the Board’s extraordinary contribution towards improving performance of the United Nations and its organizations over the past 70 years.
